HOW TO: LEARN TO PAINT AN AMAZING VIRDIGRIS - TARNISHED BRONZE EFFECT ON A STORMCAST ETERNAL.
I’ve been working on some stormcast eternals that really look amamzing with this effect. it looks brilliant and is actually really easy. The method can also be easily scaled up for whole miniatures and models but also can be scaled down for small accents and shields.
For this we will be using Citadel colours and i’ll show you how to achieve a great tabletop standard finish that will look incredible.
PROCESS OVERVIEW - BEFORE/MID-WAY/FINISH
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
A model you are going to paint - in this case a Stormcasr Prosecutor Shield - Model should be primed in black
A medium sized paintbrush and a small round dry drybrush.
CItadel paints Sotek Green, Warlock Bronze, Balthasar Gold and Retributor Gold. You will also need the Citadel Technical Paint Nihilakh Oxide.
WHAT IS A TECHNICAL PAINT
Technical paints let you creatre a varietyof special effects to your models. Some help to creat gruesome blood spatters or filthy earth and corrosion effects – each makes for an eye-catching way to finish your miniatures.
METHOD
Using your medium sized brush apply an even thin coat of sotek green, dont worry if some of the black primer shows through this will help add to the effect.
Once this is dry take the Nihilaxk Oxide, this is very runny much like a contrast paint. Apply a liberal layer all over the shield and allow it to dry fully.
Taking your dry brush and the warlock bronze begin to drybrush over the shield. Its important at this step not to apply too much pressure. Keep it light using the weight of the brush to build up the colour until you are happy. Repeat the process with balthasar gold building up the highlights.
Finally finish the shield with a very light dry brush of Retributor armour and you are done! EASY!
Now you’ve mastered that you can apply it to a whole model!
